SUVA, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- With the expected increase in traffic in light of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Fijian police are intensifying efforts to ensure the safety of all road users during the festive season.
Emphasizing the critical need for heightened vigilance, Fijian Police Chief of Operations Livai Driu said the public will experience more checkpoints.
He added that the measures are vital for reducing road accidents, which have killed 63 people this year.
Driu stressed that the police are not only focusing on traffic management but are also increasing their visibility in communities across the country.
He urged drivers to drive safely, obey traffic laws, and prioritize the safety of passengers. ■
