MOSCOW, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and four others injured in an explosion at a former mechanical plant in Russia's Khakassia region, local media reported Monday, citing regional authorities.

According to preliminary information, the incident may have occurred due to a breach of safety regulations, Russia's state-run news agency RIA reported, citing the press service of the Khakassia government.

Rescuers and law enforcement officers are currently working to determine the cause of the incident, local governor Valentin Konovalov said. ■
