YANGON, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Yangon region and Shan state exposed the most human trafficking cases in January this year, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Tuesday.

About 68 suspects in the connection have been taken action against so far.

Yangon region and Shan state account for 39 percent of the total cases, followed by Mandalay with 9 percent, Kachin state with 5 percent, Kayin state and Bago region with 4 percent each.

About 290 trafficking cases were exposed and 609 traffickers were dealt with as of November last year.

Forced marriage has become the main cause of human trafficking in Myanmar, accounting for 69.7 percent, followed by sex trade with 13.6 percent, labour exploitation or forced labour with 4.8 percent.

About 85 percent of the victims are women, while children account for 4.38 percent of the victims.

Meanwhile, Myanmar parliament is expected to approve the Anti-trafficking in Persons Revised Law this year, based on that enacted in September 2015.
